 Financial Literacy Workshops

flit1

Building on the success of our Community Volunteer Income Tax Program the Volunteer Centre of St. Lawrence-Rideau is excited to be offering a Financial Literacy Program focused on helping people gain more confidence in dealing with financial matters.  The program is delivered by trained volunteers leveraging the work of Prosper Canada.

Our 90 minute workshops are delivered in convenient locations throughout our communities allowing for easy access to attend.  We also offer many of our workshops virtually.

The program focuses on two fundamental workshops with topics varying from banking, saving, budgeting, income tax, credit and debt. All participants who attend are assisted in creating a SMART Goal to encourage improved financial behaviours. The following are some of the topics that will be covered:

  • Your relationship with money and how advertising preys upon all of us to consume more than we can afford (and is sometimes fraudulent)
  • Managing budgets and savings to enable you to withstand some of life’s curveballs
  • Effective ways to save for you and your family’s future.
  • How credit and debt products work so you can make a confident decision on how to use them effectively.

Our Youth Financial Workshops focus on credit & debt, banking & savings, consumerism, living on your own for the first time, budgets, income taxes, post secondary education finances, first job & your income and so much more.

Youth who participate can earn up to 10 community volunteer hours.

Here is a great chance to attend a free workshop to enhance and improve your financial confidence and well-being.
