Testimonials

Youth are at the heart of our community. Volunteering at the Stingers After School Program has given me the opportunity to witness our youth engage each other in a safe environment – surrounded by both youth and adult peers.

Within public health principles, the importance of identifying strengths and building on them is paramount to a growth mindset.  Kindness, encouragement and respect are principles embedded in the program; I see these positive qualities in our participating youth – and their growing social competence. This program allows participants to have fun but also provides a space to navigate conflict and its resolution in a safe milieu. Seeing these qualities make me grateful to have the opportunity to meet with this group weekly.

At the helm of it all is Program Coordinator Kristina Hubert, from the Volunteer Centre of St. Lawrence Rideau, who, with her calm demeanor and sense of openness to all, keeps this program running smoothly and with a sense of purpose. She welcomes input from all – participants and volunteers alike – to continually seek to improve this program.

Thank you for the chance to be a part of this terrific program.

“I called the volunteer office and asked if someone could come to my home and do my tax return. You called me back the same day and came to my home and completed my tax return. What a wonderful program.”

“You have been doing our tax returns for 7 years now. There has never been a re-assessment. I appreciate your service very much.”

“Thank you for helping us with the disability tax credit. Our accountant never mentioned it for years. With your guidance and assistance we received a cheque for over $12000.”

“Thank you for your service for the last 9 years. We appreciate your efficiency and knowledge and sense of humour.”

“What a wonderful program you provide. Because I am house ridden it is appreciated that you come and do my return in my home.”

“I received your name from a friend to come and help me with my tax returns which I have not filed for the last 8 years. You said that it was not a problem and you would be glad to complete them. And you did and now I can relax with CRA.”

“Thank goodness this program has come to Kemptville. I made an appointment. You were on time. And you did my return in 20 minutes. What a great service.”

Here at Westminster Public School, we have been so fortunate to be part of the Volunteer Centre of St. Lawrence-Rideau’s Seniors4Kids connection!  With the organization and commitment of the volunteers, school staff and of course the students, we have seen an increase in our student reading data.

We know that this wonderful opportunity of having volunteers support students as readers in such a deliberate way has contributed to student success.

Thank you so much to the volunteer center for making this special connection possible!
